You Ground My Feet

Week Seventeen | Fifty-Two 4.30.21

Every now and then, our feet can feel unsteady, shaky. Maybe (like me) your ankle turns the wrong way and you end up with a boot leg for what feels like forever. And sometimes, you just get side-swiped, knocked down completely.

Life is full of the unexpected, the unexplainable, the unknown, the uncomfortable, and the unimaginable. And we’ve all experienced at least one, if not all of these unsettling seasons - perhaps even years - of life.

I’m no expert, but I can tell you this … walking with a limp actually makes you more approachable.

Because ~

who hasn’t struggled?

who hasn’t been discouraged?

who hasn’t been weary?

who hasn’t experienced hurt?

who hasn’t felt the brokenness that simply comes with being in this world, while waiting for a new more glorious one?

And it helps to remember, you’re not alone in your limp.

We’ve all been wounded, some much more deeply than others. And I’m so sorry for your pain, your loss, your trauma, and all of the brutal life-time pieces that come with it. But may I also tenderly and humbly tell you something else? It’s absolutely possible to reclaim that broken ground.

For ashes to become beauty.

For scars to become threads.

For limps to become connectors.

No matter the size of your hurt, there’s always Hope. But there’s also a conspiracy against your peace and your purpose. And the conspirator (yes sometimes the devil, but sometimes our own self-sabotage) will incessantly whisper panic into your heart…

unless you’re grounded.

As he fled from his own son, fearing for his life while grieving the unimaginable, King David declared something brave ~

“But you, God, shield me on all sides;

You ground my feet,

you lift my head high. … I will not be afraid.” -‭‭Psalm‬ ‭3:3,6

So to the one who longs to finally understand

your ashes, your scars, your limp

know this...it’s okay not to understand. You may never, this side of Heaven.

But ~ there is One

who can make sense out of senseless,

who can turn evil for good, and

who can ground our feet when they come right out from under us.

It’s true...the conspiracy theory is real and you are the target. But don’t be afraid, because that same theory gets torn to shreds in the End.

Jesus wins.

May we confidently limp like it.
