You Can Never Get Away
Week Twenty | Fifty-Two 5.21.21
If you’ve ever been a mama, a babysitter, or simply a helper to little people, you’ve likely said these three words a time or two:
Hold my hand.
It’s a simple phrase … that has life-saving potential.
The majority of the time, our little person reaches back (perhaps reluctantly) for our stretched-out hand. And then sometimes, they don’t. Because three other words sneak into their little hearts, oh so soon:
“Me do it.”
And there they remain, forever after. You and me, all grown-up, toddling between the tension of surrender and sufficiency.
All the while, whether we lean right or fall left, just beside us is an always steady Voice,
“I know everything about you.
I see you when you travel and when you rest at home.
I go before you and follow you.
You can never escape from my Spirit!
You can never get away from Me.” ~ Psalm 139, adapted
And just like our little people, we remember (sometimes the hard way) that there’s an unseen provision when we hold on to the one who loves us best.
Because it’s true ~
No matter what you’ve done
No matter where you’ve been
No matter who you are
No matter how hard you try ~
You can never get away.
It’s an uncomfortable comfort. And just like the love of a good, good Father to mysteriously turn “Me do it” into “You do it.”
Every single time.
